Wedding Dress Storage

Posted on: June 28th, 2012 by Souri

What to do with your wedding dress after the big day? Some people might sell the dress, some use it for “trash the dress” photo shoots and some want to keep it. You might want to use it again for a styled photo shoot later. A lot of dresses end up in storage.┬áThere is no right or wrong what to do.┬áBefore you store your dress away why not go out for a styled wedding shoot in Melbourne. We are sure you would love this …

In case you want to store your dress here is some advice:

Prior to all storage, all padding material such as shoulder pads should be removed. These materials can deteriorate with age and self stain the gown. It is best to wrap the gown in tissue and store it in a box. Storing it on a hanger can cause strain to the shoulder areas and eventual fabric deterioration. The gown should not be covered in plastic for long term storage. Platic can trap moisture and cause mildew.

You should store the gown in a cool, dry closet. Never next to a hot object or in an attic. High temperatures can accelerate oxidation and discolouration of finishes or trims. In addition, gowns should never be stored in a damp basement where moisture can cause mildew.
